Macy's opens first small-format stores in Northeast, Western region

Macy's announced on Tuesday the opening of four new small-format stores, marking the first expansion of its small-format locations into the Northeast and Western regions of the United States. 

The openings span Boston, Las Vegas and San Diego and will bring the retailer’s total store count to twelve locations. The expansion started with a opening this month in Highland, Indiana, at Macy’s Highland Grove. 

Next, in September, Macy’s is scheduled to open at Macy’s South Bay in Boston, Massachusetts, and at Macy’s Arroyo Market Square, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Completing the expansion is an opening at Macy’s Santee Trolley Square, in San Diego, California, scheduled for November.

Macy’s small format stores are designed to deliver a seamless experience with well-known market brands, Macy’s private brands, convenient services, local events and the latest trends, all within an easy-to-shop environment.

The concept was first launched as Market by Macy’s, in 2020, where it continues to live in eight previous locations. The new locations will bear just the iconic Macy's nameplate.

The first iteration opened in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Southlake and was followed the next year by the addition of two new locations in the region, as well as two new stores to the Atlanta market. By the end of 2022, small-format stores expanded further in Atlanta and opened new stores in St. Louis and Chicago, bringing the total to eight locations.
